One More Time…
Goal.com in the past couple of weeks conducted a campaign to see the return of the great captain, Paolo Maldini in the upcoming match against Brazil. A bit ambitious in their part but it seems that our wish will be granted and he will get the farewell that he deserves. To the joy of many he did not shut out the idea of a final appearance to the national squad for the 127th time. It seems that it is all coming together now but like Lippi said it just is impossible to obtain his services against Brazil, but the good news is that something can be worked out before Il Capitano retires from football.
“Wearing the Italy shirt again? Yes, it would be a pleasure. It would not be a return to the national team, but the perfect occasion to celebrate a long career with Italy, and I would be delighted to do this,” Maldini stated.
I’m holding my breath and crossing my fingers hoping that Maldini gets his final good bye from the Azzuri. It definitely will not be against Brazil, which would have been a fantastic match to have seen, but can I just suggest a possible friendly against Spain. Now wouldn’t that be at treat?
